Group Members: Jing Li, Sophie Agudelo, Jocelyn Santos, Lindsey Nielsen
This is another group project that I worked on during my final two semesters at UCF, in the fall of 2023 into the spring of 2024. It was a whole new different learning experience that took only a fraction of what I knew with project development, and expanded it much further. Instead of just working on wireframes and brainstorming ideas for a possible project, we had the chance to do that and more by building an actual website for our idea. My assigned roles in the project were to mainly handle bits of the backend, handle parts of our prototyping and use cases, and also perform some research for our authentication feature.
UCFrugal is an advertising website dedicated towards UCF students and staff. We wanted to branch out using the ideas and concepts of other websites such as eBay, Facebook Marketplace, and Craigslist, and make something that resonates more with us, while also attempting to combat the struggles that users face with other advertising and e-commerce websites, whether that be fears of insecure transactions or troubles with trying to search for items listed.
To develop this project, we used Figma for the wireframes, and we used WordPress with a fair amount of plugins (ex: Classified Listings, LoginPress, Elementor, WP 2FA, and Better Messages) to power the site and provide it’s needed functionalities. We also used Flywheel to host the website, but we had to shut down the hosting as we were paying for it out of our own pockets.
